About the

The Director

Jo-Black’s career expands 25 years in the fashion industry, working alongside luxury brands and fashion retailers and developing bespoke eyewear pieces and collaborations that lead and set trends.

As the CEO of bbase Design Group, she is responsible for overall operations and strategy of the business, and leads the charge to continue the important work that makes bbase the design powerhouse it is today. Her work has seen her deliver memorable concepts to milestone accounts with H&M (for special collaborations with Viktor & Rolf, Madonna and Karl Lagerfeld), Elizabeth & James, Massimo Dutti and more.

Her leadership has brought in significant improvements in bbase's operations that support their commitment to their responsibility journey with staff, clients and partners. These include rigorous assessments on responsible material alternatives, introducing 3D capabilities to the business and creating a space to nurture young design talent - all in 2021, when she first stepped in as CEO.

Elevating the bbase design team’s capability to include 3D development has resulted in a physical in-house 3D printing lab in HK HQ and the launch of their virtual showroom to amplify and digitally share the bbase experience to clients anywhere in the world. Their 3D offerings now include rapid sampling programs which require less time, shipping and material resources.

The launch of the bow Index is a culmination of the company's work into better certification and responsible material alternatives for eyewear and Jo has propelled this project forward for it to be the most public-facing sustainability initiative of the company. The project has attracted key material and supply-chain partners that have put us in the position to venture towards really exciting growth with the business.

incubbase provides young designers the opportunity to learn about sustainable eyewear design in an innovation space.

For three weeks, young designers learn about the fundamentals of sustainable eyewear design through the innovations and technology that bbase uses. Each week, the designers work on their concepts under the guidance of the bbase team preparing to present final concepts to the judges. Launched in partnership with Hong Kong Polytechnic University, bbase will soon be rolling this out globally and across virtual platforms.
