About the Company:

Single-Champion-Brands-For-Good-2019.png

BR Metals was founded in 2009 with principal objective of minimizing the detrimental impacts on the environment and communities brought on by Platinum Group Metals (PGM) mining.

Today, the company is a leading processor and recycler of end-of-life catalytic converters and other PGM scraps. Catalytic converters are exhaust emission control devices that reduce toxic pollutants from vehicles to our environment, and contain valuable PGM like Platinum, Palladium and Rhodium. In fact, more than 60% of global PGM supply is used in catalytic converters.

Our facilities in Singapore and China are equipped to process and accurately analyze PGM content in these scrap materials for optimal recovery at our partner refineries. We reclaim an estimated 80,000oz.t of PGM annually since 2016, and return these high-demand, finite resources to the circular economy, and in particular the automotive industry without any detrimental impact on the environment or communities associated with mining whilst helping to conserve these resources for future generations.

In addition to our steadfast commitment to conduct our business in a socially responsible and environmentally sustainable manner, we firmly believe in the transformative power of education to improve lives and turn communities into sustainable, productive and profitable places with improved living standards. Hence, our social initiatives are focused on providing or sponsoring education opportunities to make a positive difference to our community.

These include the BR Metals Scholarship for the Bachelor of Science with Honours in Chemical Engineering at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), Singapore’s first university of applied learning. We have chosen to establish the scholarship with SIT because we are convinced that applied learning empowers students to better meet the challenges of the real world with the requisite skills and mindset to get ahead.

BR Metals Guangzhou regularly donates books and journals about current environmental issues, urban mining and conservation to schools and public libraries. We are hopeful our book donations will raise awareness and inspire actions to save our planet for future generations.

"Creating opportunities, generating growth and making money with social and environmental sustainability at the heart of our business."

About the

Managing Director - Frank Chen

When Frank started the company, he was driven by a strong conviction to make PGM recycling a viable alternative to often-destructive deep earth mining and BR Metals the trusted go-to company for sustainable recycling and recovery of these finite resources.

Under Frank's leadership, the company's rank and file set out to achieve this by abiding by the strictest international environmental standards and attaining the new ISO 14001:2015 for both our Singapore and Guangzhou operations.

Even though environmental compliance has led to higher operating costs and hampered our competitiveness, especially in the Chinese market, we still managed to secure a sizable market share in China.

This is something that Frank is extremely proud of because the success of BR Metals is proof that environmental compliance and profitability are not incompatible.

Frank was also determined to elevate the level of professionalism and transparency in the precious metals recycling business, which was generally lacking when he founded the business.

He wanted to “democratise’ the business and bring the same level of services, know-how and customer care offered by big-name refineries and international recyclers to the often neglected smaller suppliers. In turn, our customers recycle more scraps, which are diverted from the landfills. We take care of our customers and the environment at the same time.

Moving forward, we’ll continue to set high industry standards as a trusted partner that provide transparency, responsive services and create sustainable value for our customers.

Regardless of service diversifications, we are committed to positively contributing to their growth based on flexible arrangements, value-add services and customised recycling solutions that meet their specific needs.
